Upaya Pengaturan Bahan Bakar Composite Boiler Guna Menerapkan Aturan MARPOL 73/78 Pada Annex VI Sulphur Emission Control Area (SECA) Untuk Menurunkan Emisi Sulfur Pada MT. GAS WIDURI.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze fuel management efforts in the Composite Boiler to implement the regulations of MARPOL 73/78 Annex VI regarding the Sulphur Emission Control Area (SECA), to reduce the sulfur emissions on MT. GAS WIDURI vessel. According to MARPOL 73/78 Annex VI Regulation 14.4, the sulfur content limit for ships operating in Sulphur Emission Control Area (SECA) areas cannot be more than 0.10% since 1 st January 2015. However, during its operations, MT. GAS WIDURI encountered issues such as fuel sulfur content exceeding the 0.10% limit and a descent in Composite Boiler performance after switching fuel oil to Low Sulphur Marine Gas Oil (LSMGO). This study employs a qualitative descriptive method through direct observation onboard, interviews, literature review, and documentation. The results indicate that the sulfur content of the Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (LSFO) used onboard was 0.50%, and the descent in Composite Boiler performance was caused by differences in fuel viscosity and dirt particle in the Filter Nozzle Burner. As a solution, the fuel was changed to Low Sulphur Marine Gas Oil (LSMGO) with a sulfur content below 0.10%, and the Filter Nozzle Burner of the Composite Boiler was cleaned. The fuel switch proved to be an effective solution for ships operating in Sulphur Emission Control Area (SECA), and cleaning the Filter Nozzle Burner helped reduce significant pressure drops.This research is expected to serve as a reference for marine engineers in making decisions regarding to sulfur emission issues when operating in Sulphur Emission Control Areas (SECA).
